DECEMBER 2011: Jaime Parra Rizo
The theme of this exhibition is about Afro-Colombian dancers and musicians on the Pacific Coast. These photos were taken in the town of Tumaco during a traditional festival held by the black communities of the region. I used a Nikon F1 and was experimenting with diffusion and movement. During the 1980′s I was working in the Pacific region as an anthropologist, helping the native Indians and the black groups to deal with their terrirorial and political rights.
The folklore of the black communities is based on the amalgamation of African traditions and the lore of the native Indians and the Spanish colonisers. The type of musical instruments, rhythms, melodies and dances are a unique expression of their cultural diversity.

This is one way to let other people take part in my feelings and visions of the
world, to show wonders and wounds in a very gentle way. I think myself a kind of
storyteller.
AUGUST 2011: JAMES SLEVIN
Opening at 7pm on Friday 5th August- everyone welcome!
James Slevin was born in London in 1973. Now Father of two, he lives and works at The Secret Gallery and Studios, Doolin, Co. Clare. Travel has been the main guiding force throughout James’ life. He learnt about art through these explorations, primarily learning from people he met. Long distance walker and activist, his art and life have often been inseparable. Altruistic, creative acts are a large part of what makes up his artistic practice. Alongside these acts of kindness, photography brings a more tangible visual aspect to his practice and conceptually inspired hand carved wooden objects bring a sensual, physical side. James Slevin is one of the founding members of TAM, The Altruism Movement, an artists’ collective that has started in Co. Clare. Exploring potential and possibilities in terms of art, life and kindness.

UPSTAIRS: AUGUST 5th-7th 2011
Brief Synopsis of Video:
Passage is a three-part video work that evokes a sense of fear and unease through its use of visceral imagery and eerie, atmospheric sound. The work explores three distinctive yet interconnected processes, suggestive of the metaphysical transitions between life, death and rebirth. The unsettling nature of the sound and the suffocating characteristics of the dust-like material provokes the viewer to consider mortality and the inherent sense of mysticism in the unknown.

Caitriona Sheedy is an artist from and living in Co.Clare.
Her work could be described as abstract expressionism,
she uses colour, line and shape in a purely expressive way,
capturing a feeling, an emotion, a moment in time.
Caitriona paints intuitively and feels very guided in her work.
Feeling that a deeper sense of our being, our experience,
universal energy comes through in art and in our creativity.

October 2010 SARA FAUST
American artist Sara Foust has been based in Co. Clare for the last 8 years. She studied in the USA, at RISD and Brown University, where she received her BA in Visual Art in 1992. In San Francisco, CA Sara trained with famed muralist Susan Cervantes and became a noted muralist in her own right.
Sara’s paintings overspill with colour; brushstrokes push you to the centre of a rushing river of landscape, figures play in ambiguous space. It is known territory, but a world shimmering with light and in constant motion.
Sara has created several multimedia art projects working with various groups, most notably intergenerational oral history and painting projects. Her recent work includes ECHO in 2005, which was published as a book, The Way I Remember It, Women’s Work in 2007 which was the subject of a filmed documentary, and the HOME project which was released as an art exhibition and catalogue this year. Her work has been supported by the Arts Council of Ireland, Clare County Council, HSE, RRD/Leader, Cluid Housing, and many private clients.
